Zinnias are just making my week as they come out in force! While the majority of the seeds I sowed in-ground did not end up making it, I planted four 'backup seeds' of the Giant Purple Zinnia (more of a purplish-pink, in actuality) this spring in the pot where our ornamental ginger died during the deep freeze this past winter, and what a good decision that was! They are ALL thriving, they are loving the southern exposure, and are adding a seriously cool pop of contrasting color against our blue house. (Sadly, the ginger died for good after fighting through two unnaturally harsh Northwest winters).
Diversifying where we plant seeds as gardeners is a great way to hedge your bets while also seeing not just where they are successful, but where they look good as well! I have definitely learned so much by doing this - because as a gardener? You are always a student.
