Texture in the Autumn Garden

As I watch the belated winding up of our 2024 garden, one of the things I particularly enjoy is watching the slow process of everything closing up shop for the season, preparing for hibernation, flowers going to seed and so many little birds scurrying around doing their part.

This morning I made myself a coffee, bundled up, and sat out on our covered patio and watched November be...November. And I started to note the details.

From the black eyed susan's seed heads to the stubborn blooms still on the fuschia to the morning light on the lilacs casting shadows to the crunchy brown petals of the hydrangea, there is beauty in the annual end of the season...because we know it leads to rebirth in just a few months...

The hummingbirds now flock to our garden where I silently tell them about how so much of was planted just for them...particularly our pineapple sage plants that smell so good and hold the beautiful nectar they adore in those red blooms....and as we near December, are still fighting the good fight.
