Signs of the Season: Garlic Sprouting

The garlic emerged just before our crazy late winter cold spell, and with the first half of March promising to (finally!) get to the low 50s, I'm stoked to watch these mostly new varieties grow. Mostly new? Yep. Last year when I harvested my 30 or 40 heads of garlic, I got so immersed in getting them peeled and minced for canning that, for the first time in my life, I literally forgot to save enough heads for planting! Fortunately I had one head of Chesnok that'd made a run for freedom, so that and three new locally grown varieties (Music, Red Toch, and Sicilian) are in the mix for this summer's harvest.

Nothing like garlic to confirm you haven't lost your green thumb in the veggie garden.
