While I've been growing penstemon since being on the farm, it's always been one called Midnight Masquerade, which is basically dark purple leaves with pale pink flowers, so this time I branched out and found one with a similar name but more traditional green shrubbery and the purple I adore.
While I unfortunately planted it where it would often have wet feet, which it's OK with but not super a fan of, now at mid-summer much of the soil has dried out and it's coming out of its shell as you can see here. And the purple - it's quite addictive for me the gardener, in all its beautiful shades...
"Be different. Be original. Nobody will remember a specific flower in a garden filled with thousands of the same yellow flower, BUT they will remember the one that managed to change its color to purple." ~ Suzy Kassem
