Love love LOVE the cigar/cigarette plant! Also known as the firecracker plant, ‘Cuphea ignea’ is definitely one that should NOT go in the ground in the Northwest (zone 8b) unless you want to treat it like an annual! I couldn't resist and planted it AGAIN in the ground because it just LOVES our summers...so guess what I'll be doing next year! Maybe I'll learn how to, like our gardenia, keep it in a pot and bring it inside over winter.
Maybe.
