Usually the word "supersize" is a huge turnoff, right? But when it came to the meadow rue, a plant that is usually just a few feet tall (you know, for a meadow), to see this in the nursery touting a six foot height? I didn't believe it but my husband loved it so we gave it a try.
It was totally accurate - and I wish I had a zillion more. But for now it's standing tall (yep, the stem is so strong it doesn't need staking) even after some good rainstorms, and has just reached the top of the fence (which is guess how high...).
It's a slender gal, kind of tall and 1990s supermodel waif-like (minus the grumpy facial expressions). It's not only taught me more about this type of flower, it's also shown how much I want to hide the fake-dyed fence that our back garden is surrounded in (as my love reminded me, eventually it WILL fade away so we can see the beautiful natural gray underneath that cedar is known for).
Anyhow, native to Japan, this Supersized Purple variety is a welcome addition and is loving the dappled shade that we're fortunate to have on this edge of our garden.
