While I've grown lobelia (aka Cardinal Flower) here and there in the past, when I learned that it loves having wet feet, I pounced on it for our back and side gardens. This red-on-plum Queen Victoria variety I found at the nursery seemed super intriguing, so I created a pathway of sorts out of ten of them in our back garden.
Hey, anything where the description says "can tolerate brief flooding" is interesting, so we'll see how long they last, as both sites I've seen them on describe them as 'short lived'. But they are all about the hummingbird, and sitting out on our back deck with my love, my animals, and my flowers like these and our bee balm and valerian drawing the Anna's hummingbird in?
It's so worth it.
Suppose I say summer,
write the word “hummingbird,”
put it in an envelope,
take it down the hill
to the box. When you open
my letter you will recall
those days and how much,
just how much, I love you. ~ Raymond Carver
