Lamb’s Ears: “Fuzzy Wuzzy"

Another last minute addition to the backyard garden in late spring, the lamb's ear groundcover has done a much better job both functionally and aesthetically on the oh-so-slight slope leading from our fruit forest down to the main part of our backyard garden where our raised beds are situated, as compared to the Ceanothus 'Point Reyes' that I've always had success with in the past. The latter didn't hold up well in the freeze over winter, and while a couple survived, they tended to blend in with the mulch, not provide any real aesthetic value, and weeds tended to come up between their little branches. Grabbing a few of these at the nursery ended up being pretty darn cool, as they puffed up in seemingly no time, and even though they didn't have a chance at blooming this year, the 'Fuzzy Wuzzy' variety's big gorgeous velvety leaves have added awesome texture, not to mention helping covering up an area that will definitely benefit from erosion control with the winter and spring rains.
