My absolute favorite veg of the year in our garden is one I never could have predicted - our 'Cobra' pole beans grown from the seeds I saved in our last garden. These are not only ones that didn't do all that well last time around, these are seeds from a veg I must admit that I've never fully appreciated. Liked, yes, but never fully appreciated as a staple veg through summer and fall. In fact, I usually only made it over the holidays, topped with bacon and chanterelles. But these have been growing SO well on the trellis, and the little purple flowers are so sweet, I have decided to not only embrace their abundance in the garden but help me expand my repertoire in the kitchen. It's kinda fun!
(and next year I'll be planting many, many more so I can enjoy these far into the winter...)
