Companion Plant: Calendula - “Pacific Beauty”

The calendulas are going crazy in the garden! This year I picked up a new seed mix, as I knew the saved seeds I had wouldn't be sufficient for our bigger gardens. So while most look more like marigolds, these ones seem to resemble daisies a bit more.

Sunny and bright, calendulas are fantastic both on their own and as companion plants. This year, along with those sowed in-ground, I decided to sow some in one of our raised beds alongside zucchini, since, as Epic Gardening states, "Aphid-eating lacewings, hoverflies, and parasitic wasps love feeding on the high pollen content of calendula flowers."

I've also promised myself that THIS is the year I'll be drying some of the flowers and making a batch of Whipped Calendula Coconut Oil...
