At long last, my second variety of Cape Lily, the South African 'Zeal Salmon' is in full bloom and definitely not a disappointment. Cape Lilies are fall bloomers, and this delayed fall bloom had me impatient, nervous, then ultimately blissed out as the pinkish-red (not nearly as pink as the pictures portray, by the way) blends in beautifully with its red cousin nearby, creating a beautiful greeting of color as I start along the footpath that leads to our back gate - and really delivers an extension of rosy color after our spring-blooming irises are long gone and the summer's bee balm has finished its reign.
And the second coolest part? They thrive having wet feet...utter perfection for this bottom edge of the garden where the fall rains have already soaked the ground. They are all thriving, and I look for them to continue to multiply in the coming years.
