After the tulips finished up, the California poppies in our brick planter took over. But as they finished up their work this past week, I was left with a "meh" area in the front of our two brick planters. With the mixed blessing of cooler weather just before the Solstice, we ran down to the local nursery to find a couple of 'matchy matchy' summer-bloomers, and were stoked to discover a small bushy version of our beloved Bee Balm called Balmy Lilac that would be ideal in this spot (morning shade, afternoon sun) and yet not be so tall as to look odd in this particular planter.
Perfect for the bees, the hummingbirds, the butterflies...and the planters!
