Boy oh boy I do love a June surprise. I've been wondering what of the seeds sown in early spring would actually materialize in my back garden after the late winter snow and mind-melding ups and downs of spring (hello nigella, still waiting for a miracle...) and the bachelor's buttons coming up in a variety of places around the garden are giving me some much needed hope. AKA cornflowers, this 'Velvet Dawn' variety is an heirloom seed and is tall and dark and popping up amongst the valerian and poppies...and easy to see why they are such a beloved wildflower...
